Soul Files is field notes from running a personal AI agent fleet — a set of software agents with distinct personalities and persistent memory, and an honest account of what it is like to build them, live with them, and depend on them.

It runs three threads:

• Personality & memory — the signature thread: how an agent gets a personality, and how it remembers you across sessions.
• Productivity in practice — the agents doing real work as themselves, where the personality is the point and the useful outcome is the proof.
• Agent-assisted security — using agents for genuine security work, from auditing a new dependency’s source to a paranoid review agent.

One rule holds it together: every post is about the agents — their personalities, memory, and workflows — never just the tool.

How this is made

Soul Files is an AI-assisted publication, and that is part of the story rather than something hidden in the footer.

Each post is drafted with Claude, then researched, fact-checked, edited, and approved by a human author before it goes out. The ideas, the judgments, and the opinions are the author’s own — the assistance is in the drafting and the plumbing, not the thinking.

Every concrete example — an agent dialogue, a config shape, a failure — is reconstructed from scratch. The pattern and the lesson are real; the specifics are invented to make the point. Nothing here is copied from private logs, real conversations, or anyone’s personal data. A reconstructed example is usually the better example anyway: tighter, and with no redaction scars.
